Cyrrus RVSE product launch

NEWS >> General

Grahame Stuteley attended the Cyrrus RVSE product Launch this month, below is his summary of the product:

This isn’t quite the “one solution fits all” technology it has been marketed as. Nor does it really introduce anything amazingly new to the industry. But what it does do is simplify the application of radar infill for airports and developers, and could have a few useful applications such as optimising airspace detection with relative ease.

The unit is basically a desktop computer sized box that takes the existing radar display and overlays the infill radar display with various features that can be simply set up using a lap top. The finished overlay exactly matches that of the original radar display and the operator can define 4 zones of any shape or size in which they wish to see the infill coverage. It can be set to various transparencies so you can still see both radar feeds at once if wished. It could also be set to the entire screen as an overlay if wished. It is a simple plug and play set up and has no effect on the existing equipment and should anything fail it automatically bypasses the system. It accounts for the different rotational rates and pulse timings, and generates a “synthetic feed” in the defined zones that is then accurately matched up with the existing display. I have been advised that the CAA have been involved from day one so it all fits with the CAP 670 3nm separation requirements and that the MoD and Aviation Operators were at the same presentation the day before I was. Commercials have not been finalised but £150K was mentioned. However as they have said each application will be unique so hard to cost up.
